The long version

Series 12 is built on a new health-sensing system: the S11 chip drives an always-on optical heart sensor that samples 60 times more often than previous generations, feeding a personal Readiness score that tells you whether to push a workout or rest, alongside more frequent HRV readings and an estimated health age. Apple is calling it the most accurate heart-rate sensing in a wearable to date. The case gets a ceramic option for the first time since the original Apple Watch Edition, sitting alongside the usual aluminium and titanium, and the display runs on the same bright LTPO3 panel as Series 11. Everything from the ECG app to blood oxygen, hypertension notifications and sleep apnoea detection carries over, now paired with on-device Siri health queries.
